[Re] Waste and Weed Pool Launch Cannabis Recycling Program in Saskatchewan

[Re] Waste and Weed Pool Launch Cannabis Recycling in Saskatchewan

Edmonton, Alberta – In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at championing sustainability within the cannabis sector, [Re] Waste, Canada’s leading cannabis recycling company, proudly announces a strategic collaboration with the Weed Pool Cannabis Cooperative (“Weed Pool”), Saskatchewan's largest cannabis cooperative. This partnership is set to introduce an innovative recycling program across Weed Pool’s network of retail members, promoting a circular economy and offering consumers a sustainable alternative to landfill waste.

Since the legalization of cannabis in 2018, packaging waste has become a significant challenge. Addressing this issue, [Re] Waste and Weed Pool are now collaborating to collect, process, and repurpose cannabis packaging into useful recycled products such as tubes, flat packs, and rolling trays. This effort      reduces environmental impact and     supports the local economy by turning waste into valuable products for Weed Pool’s members to utilize and sell.

Retailers participating in this program will be equipped with Weed Pool EcoBins for collecting used packaging in their stores. Once full, these bins will be sent to [Re] Waste, where the packaging is sorted, granulated, and transformed into feedstock for new products. This process is     even more impactful through [Re] Waste's partnership with Goodwill, which helps create employment opportunities for people with disabilities, who play a critical role in sorting the recyclable materials.

Corey Saban, Founder and CEO of [Re] Waste, emphasizes the significance of this collaboration: "Partnering with Weed Pool allows us to broaden our impact and strengthen our dedication to environmental sustainability and innovation in the cannabis industry. This partnership not only addresses waste issues but also sets a precedent for a sustainable future, proving that every piece of packaging has a valuable second life."

Brett Wells, CEO of Weed Pool, shares his enthusiasm: "We are thrilled to bring [Re] Waste's proven recycling program to our members. This initiative underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship and positions us as leaders in sustainable practices within the cannabis marketplace."

This recycling program is a vital step toward achieving net-zero waste goals, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards a sustainable circular economy in Saskatchewan. [Re] Waste's efforts have already diverted over three     million cannabis packages from landfills, and this partnership promises to extend these benefits even further.
